Sourdough French Toast - With caramelised Bananas and Walnuts

  •  4 Thick slices of sourdough bread
  • 2 Eggs
  • 80 ml Milk
  • 40 ml Double cream 
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 Ripe bananas
  • 2 tsp Brown sugar
  • 50g Butter for frying 
  • Handful of Walnuts
  • Bacon (optional) 
  • Honey to finish 


  1. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, vanilla extract, and a dash of cinnamon to create the French toast batter.
  2. Dip each slice of sourdough bread into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat and melt butter. Cook the soaked bread slices until golden brown on each side.
  4. In the meantime, slice ripe bananas and sauté them in a pan with butter and brown sugar until caramelized.
  5. Toast walnuts in a dry pan until fragrant and lightly browned.
  6. Serve the golden French toast topped with the caramelised bananas and walnuts, drizzle with maple syrup or honey for an extra touch of sweetness.
  7. If you like a salty sweet flavour combination try adding some streaky bacon.
